Sarasota Police Department reminds drivers to buckle up

SARASOTA – The Sarasota Police Department is reminding drivers, “Click It or Ticket.”
Memorial Day Weekend is a busy travel time, so the seat belt campaign reinforces buckling up is not only the law, but could save your life.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 48% of vehicle occupants killed in 2016 were not wearing a seat belt.
“We want that number to go down,” Sarasota Police Dept. Public Information Officer Genevieve Judge said. “We want it to be zero. So we really want folks to remember to make sure to buckle up. Buckle up yourself if you’re driving; buckle up passengers and make sure everyone’s safe in your car.”
Their campaign started Monday, May 14 and runs thru June 3, but Judge says it’s something drivers should be conscious of year-round.
